Shavon “Shay” DeBarr

Growing up a country girl, I’ve always been around guns, and after serving 20 years in the Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant, artillery became my heart. I can’t imagine living without my guns now, but it wasn’t until getting married and having kids that I realized how important safe gun storage is.

Before getting married, I used to keep a gun in the nightstand, in the kitchen drawer, and even one underneath my couch. With kids in the house, it’s different. You never know what a kid might want to show off to their friends, which is why I knew I needed a safe. Not only to keep my kid safe, but also to keep my husband, guests at our house, and myself safe.

Being a female Marine was the best thing I’ve ever done with my life because it allowed me to serve my country and continue to serve other Veterans and military spouses to this day. And part of that service is storing your guns safely. It’s paramount if you own a gun, you should store it safely.
